Lake Owasso is included in the Ramsey Washington Metro Watershed District (RWMWD). RWMWD is a key public agency for water quality issues associated with Lake Owasso. The RWMWD Board meets the first Wednesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at 2665 Noel Drive in Little Canada where the meeting is open to the public. Board meeting packets are usually posted the Friday before each upcoming meeting and past meeting minutes posted in the Document Library.
Statewide there are some 46 Watershed Districts responsible for administering and monitoring water related issues in their jurisdictions. Unlike Cities, Counties, and Townships which follow political boundaries, Watershed Districts are special government entities with boundaries following natural drainage patterns within a geographic area.
Watershed Districts were authorized in 1955 by the State Legislature. A Watershed District maintains taxing authority. A Watershed Organization (often associated with less populated areas) conducts the same mission as a Watershed District but without taxing authority.
